Bargain of the Week August 20, 2008

Forever 21 Femme Cargo Jacket in Olive $27.80

In answer to several of your questions about stay at home mom alternatives for the playground, this is a great pick. A fresh stand-in for a sweater, it would be perfect over jeans and a tee with your new fall boots. It also comes in grey. At twenty eight bucks you can get two!

3.1 Phillip Lim on SALE! August 14, 2008

3.1 Phillip Lim Jersey Pleated Dress

3.1 Phillip Lim Jersey Pleated Dress

This just might be THE perfect dress; modern, forgiving, season-less and best of all, at half off? Affordable! (Marked down from $430 to $215 at net-a-porter.com) In grey cotton jersey, it could easily be dressed up or down, and would work with a ton of different shoe styles. It would be gorgeous for a fall evening with black tights and platforms, or perfect for day over a long sleeved, black leotard with flat suede boots. Hurry! At this price you wouldn’t want to miss it.

Moving Into Fall July 29, 2008

Since returning from vacation (after one canceled flight and a subsequent missed connection - good times with a 2 and 4 year old) I feel the summer coming to a close. Not literally of course since it will continue to be a skillion degrees here well into September, but I find myself beginning to pine for tall boots and cozy sweaters. Although this Vince dress is part of a summer sale, it’s modern enough that it doesn’t scream ‘hot weather,’ and at this price ($285 marked down to $119.70) it’s a great foray into September. Vince Graphic Swirl Print Dress available at Bloomingdales.com.

…aaaand back to summer. July 16, 2008

GO International Slash Pocket Shorts in Midnight Floral $24.99

I was at Target yesterday picking up a few final items for our family beach week back east. These shorts are adorable! (The photo as usual - thanks Target - does them zero justice.) If you like to show your legs (I do not) they’re the perfect length; short but not obscene. They remind me of a much pricier Theory pair that have been flying off shelves this summer. The cut is modern and the fabric is much brighter than pictured. If I loved my legs, I would have scooped them up!

Many of you have been asking about ‘flutter’ sleeve tops. I came across this one and think it’s lovely. I’m especially drawn to the super sunny color (has a retro 70’s feel) because summer isn’t over yet! Ashley Eyelet Tunic $19.80 at forever21.com

Because It’s STILL Summer June 25, 2008

Despite the fact that summer sales are in full swing, summer only officially kicked off this past Saturday. If you have yet to find a swimsuit you love (by the way when did it stop being a ‘bathing’ suit? Probably around the same time a purse became a ‘handbag’ again…) this just might be it. Even though it may not look it, this suit is unbelievably flattering. I’m usually not a tankini fan, but the tank is super long and the ruching incredibly forgiving. Not to mention it’s crazy comfortable; always a plus in my swimsuit world, which entails chasing two slippery little dudes around the pool. Never fear - although it has a hefty price tag of $141? Marshall’s is lousy with them for around fifty bucks. Carmen Marc Valvo Draped Tankini $141 at bloomingdales.com

Loehmann’s For Kids June 22, 2008

Being that I have two boys under four, I’m always hard pressed to find clothes for them that don’t have a) A piece of sporting equipment b) A mode of transportation or c) Some type of reptile, either prehistoric or present day. Since most of you know that I am a huge Loehmann’s fan (I was practically raised in their communal dressing room, much to my horror) I often split my shopping time between the two L.A. locations nearest to me. I have been most pleasantly surprised by their ever expanding children’s section. In addition to the C&C California Skulls Tee pictured here (retails for $35, I paid $7.99) they also carry brands such as Tea, Zutano, Small Paul, Charlie Rocket, Monster Industry, Ralph Lauren and Hurley. (And if you have girls? Don’t worry - as usual there are TONS of girls clothes, Seven, Juicy Couture and Harajuku Lovers amongst them) Due to demographics, the location in Hollywood has less kid’s stuff than the more suburban Burbank store; something to bear in mind if you have a choice of locations near you.

Boho Summer Accessories At A Steal! June 9, 2008

Sometimes Forever 21 surprises me, and pleasantly at that! Like with this beautiful lucite cuff bracelet - it reminds me of the old bakelite bangles that you find at flea markets. With its buttery color and simple shape, it makes a perfect addition to a casual summer outfit including these Indian inspired sandals. (Luxe Lucite Cuff in Yellow $6.80, Tribal Floral Thongs $16.80, both available online at forever21.com)
