Formal Maternity From Isabella Oliver August 11, 2008

For those of you who are newly pregnant, VERY pregnant or recently un-pregnant and need a formal dress? This is it! The Wrap Dress from Isabella Oliver is chic and modern with a current and feminine Greek Goddess vibe. The Versatile ‘Un-Dress’ August 8, 2008

I am LOVING this dress! It has such a glamorous Film Noir vibe to it, yet still ties in the must-have fall trends of menswear, bows and ’skirts.’ With its versatile style and reasonable price tag, you could wear it with a jacket to the office (chances are unless you’re a six foot glamazon it won’t be this short on you) or pair it up with some black lace tights and platform stilettos creating a gorgeous dinner date ensemble. I might just grab it for an evening wedding in late September! BCBGMAXAZRIA Mock Two Piece Chiffon and Tweed Dress

Ten Trends for Fall 2008 August 6, 2008

It seems that each season there are a gajillion new trends. For fall 2008 I’ve chosen ten of the ones that I like best, so start stocking up! (And remember that although I love them, these are just examples of the trend I’m recommending.)

  1. The ‘Statement’ necklace; store your dainty chains for another season.
  2. Chunky knits. Even though I’m in SoCal, I’m usually able to eek out a few days in January for these.
  3. Tall, flat boots. Motorcycle boots are also hot, so I’ve chosen a style that combines the looks.
  4. Oversized bags - STILL. I happen to love big bags since I can throw all the kid’s stuff in with mine.
  5. Stilettos! The higher the better and combined with a platform, they’re a sexy replacement for your summer wedges.
  6. Plaid. I’m not really a huge fan but hey - all things in moderation.
  7. Lace and it’s EVERYWHERE; dresses, pants, shoes, bags, tights…lace accessories are an easy and inexpensive way to update your look.
  8. Bow tie blouses, but choose carefully - you want to avoid looking like a librarian.
  9. Full, calf length skirts can be cozy and chic with some bold tights, not to mention the perfect venue for your new boots!
  10. Camel, black and berry tones (Especially berry at night - go for bright!)

(Clockwise form top; Chloe ‘Poppy’ Necklace, Burberry ‘Eura’ Metallic Cardigan, Miu Miu Buckle Biker Boots, Bottega Veneta Full Pleated Skirt, Chloe ‘Pearl’ Leather Shoulder Bag, YSL Tribute T-Strap Sandals, Graeme Black Wool Flannel Dress, Temperly London Crochet Detail Blouse) All items are available at net-a-porter.com except sandals which you can find at barneys.com.

Moving Into Fall July 29, 2008

Since returning from vacation (after one canceled flight and a subsequent missed connection - good times with a 2 and 4 year old) I feel the summer coming to a close. Not literally of course since it will continue to be a skillion degrees here well into September, but I find myself beginning to pine for tall boots and cozy sweaters. Although this Vince dress is part of a summer sale, it’s modern enough that it doesn’t scream ‘hot weather,’ and at this price ($285 marked down to $119.70) it’s a great foray into September. I know I’ve been posting a lot of dresses lately, but it’s been 100 degrees in LA (my car thermometer read 115 at Z’s school today) and I just can’t get enough of how easy they are. The less I have to think about what I’m going to throw on, the better, and dresses are an entire outfit. I came across this one while answering a reader’s post - I think it’s gorgeous. The price is right and it’s the perfect marriage between modern, chic and comfy. Kookai Cornelli Embellished Shift Dress $127.62 at asos.com
