Ten Trends for Fall 2008 August 6, 2008
It seems that each season there are a gajillion new trends. For fall 2008 I’ve chosen ten of the ones that I like best, so start stocking up! (And remember that although I love them, these are just examples of the trend I’m recommending.)
- The ‘Statement’ necklace; store your dainty chains for another season.
- Chunky knits. Even though I’m in SoCal, I’m usually able to eek out a few days in January for these.
- Tall, flat boots. Motorcycle boots are also hot, so I’ve chosen a style that combines the looks.
- Oversized bags - STILL. I happen to love big bags since I can throw all the kid’s stuff in with mine.
- Stilettos! The higher the better and combined with a platform, they’re a sexy replacement for your summer wedges.
- Plaid. I’m not really a huge fan but hey - all things in moderation.
- Lace and it’s EVERYWHERE; dresses, pants, shoes, bags, tights…lace accessories are an easy and inexpensive way to update your look.
- Bow tie blouses, but choose carefully - you want to avoid looking like a librarian.
- Full, calf length skirts can be cozy and chic with some bold tights, not to mention the perfect venue for your new boots!
- Camel, black and berry tones (Especially berry at night - go for bright!)
(Clockwise form top; Chloe ‘Poppy’ Necklace, Burberry ‘Eura’ Metallic Cardigan, Miu Miu Buckle Biker Boots, Bottega Veneta Full Pleated Skirt, Chloe ‘Pearl’ Leather Shoulder Bag, YSL Tribute T-Strap Sandals, Graeme Black Wool Flannel Dress, Temperly London Crochet Detail Blouse) All items are available at net-a-porter.com except sandals which you can find at barneys.com.
Current Obsession… July 7, 2008
…Martha Keith’s 18k gold ‘Puddle Ring’ (don’t you love how it looks JUST like a puddle?!) from her ‘Water Worn’ collection. Not only is it’s beauty unique, but I love the the inspiration for the collection; the idea that flowing water can mirror life’s flow if you let go and allow it to do so. Something to which I am able to relate (whether because I had to do so after my accident, or the fact that I’ll be forty in about three seconds - probably a little of both) so stunningly encompassed in a piece of wearable art. I love, love, LOVE it! (Available to ship two weeks from order date. $960 in 18k, $730 in 14k. Also available in sterling silver)
Boho Summer Accessories At A Steal! June 9, 2008
Sometimes Forever 21 surprises me, and pleasantly at that! Like with this beautiful lucite cuff bracelet - it reminds me of the old bakelite bangles that you find at flea markets. With its buttery color and simple shape, it makes a perfect addition to a casual summer outfit including these Indian inspired sandals. (Luxe Lucite Cuff in Yellow $6.80, Tribal Floral Thongs $16.80, both available online at forever21.com)

Wearing To Death… June 8, 2008

I bought this ring some time ago, but have just recently begun wearing it. Mine is light blue and I love it. Such a pretty statement piece to adorn a simple outfit…I might get the pink one too!

Things In My Closet That I’ll Wear Forever June 3, 2008

I was doing a bit of spring (summer) cleaning, or at least trying to. I needed to get rid of a few things - okay, a lot of things. As I was digging through my closet, I took note of the items that I’ve worn for years, and hope to continue wearing as long as they’ll hold up. Here’s a mini inventory of some of the things that I love…
- The bezel set, diamond solitaire necklace that I had made out of my mother’s engagement ring from my father.
- A cream and tomato, color blocked linen Anne Klein dress that my mother wore in the 70’s. (It has seen me through countless showers and daytime weddings)
- A pair of vintage, black satin “Shoebiz for Henri Bendel” platform heels, with big red satin rosebuds on them.
- My grandmother’s gold charm bracelet that is PACKED with charms, marking many of the important events in her life; several are engraved with notes and dates from my grandfather.
- A silver leather, Valentino trench coat that I bought 20 years ago at C-Mart in Baltimore. Originally around two thousand dollars, I paid three hundred.
- A classic pair of diamond stud earrings.
- My beloved black, orange, and pink wide-brimmed Pucci sun hat. (Similar to the one pictured)
- A pair of Anne Klein Couture, black, peep toe sling backs. I got them for twenty bucks at a sample sale because one is a 7 and one is a 7.5 - I can wear either.
- A vintage Gucci interlocking G bag that I dug up at a thrift store for thirty-five bucks.
- Last but not least, a black chiffon, Alberta Ferretti trapeze dress that I’ve worn (as have several of my friends) to many of the weddings that were too dressy for the linen Anne Klein.
Timeless Ladylike Chic June 1, 2008
I attended a party yesterday at my dear friend L’s house, who is the epitome of classic, Jackie-O-esque style. Not only is she an amazing hostess (think sterling tea set, monogrammed linen napkins and Herend china) she is a timeless and impeccable dresser. She was wearing this lime, linen dress from Banana Republic (on sale for $99.99 online) and a pair of STUNNING nude colored, Arabesque heels from Prada. (Similar to these, on sale for $390 at neimanmarcus.com) She teamed them up with turquoise enamel bracelets, not unlike this Chevron Patterned, Lee Angel Double Bangle ($101 at chickdowntown.com) her vintage gold charm bracelet, and a pair of ball cage earrings studded with green and turquoise stones. (Similar to these J.Crew Basket Weave Bauble Earrings $55) Of course it doesn’t hurt that she has looks and etiquette on par with Charlotte from Sex And The City…thanks L!
