Aside from the obvious fact that she is in desperate need of a sandwich, I’m on the fence about the pants. I can’t say that I don’t have a dissimilar pair of ‘vintage’ (read: 80’s) Cynthia Rowleys hanging in my closet as we speak. We’ll see. That being said, this Chloe pair seems to be a foray into things to come; harem pants (*GASP*) are all over the runways for Resort ‘09. You in…?
Fall ‘08 High/Low: Motorcycle Boots August 12, 2008
FINALLY! A trend that I have always considered a classic, although many would opt to argue that point - and have. I have always been a huge fan of motorcycle boots in all their incarnations (except for maybe the harness style - I’m an old school engineer girl myself) and own them in several styles and colors. Although the high end designers have jumped on the bandwagon for fall, there are many ‘lesser’ brands that are well made and MUCH more affordable. The engineer biker boot has changed little over the years, so there are lots of readily available older companies that are still making them. Check out your local Army surplus store - seriously! You’d be surprised what you can find in there…

The Versatile ‘Un-Dress’ August 8, 2008
I am LOVING this dress! It has such a glamorous Film Noir vibe to it, yet still ties in the must-have fall trends of menswear, bows and ’skirts.’ With its versatile style and reasonable price tag, you could wear it with a jacket to the office (chances are unless you’re a six foot glamazon it won’t be this short on you) or pair it up with some black lace tights and platform stilettos creating a gorgeous dinner date ensemble. I might just grab it for an evening wedding in late September! BCBGMAXAZRIA Mock Two Piece Chiffon and Tweed Dress
Ten Trends for Fall 2008 August 6, 2008
It seems that each season there are a gajillion new trends. For fall 2008 I’ve chosen ten of the ones that I like best, so start stocking up! (And remember that although I love them, these are just examples of the trend I’m recommending.)
- The ‘Statement’ necklace; store your dainty chains for another season.
- Chunky knits. Even though I’m in SoCal, I’m usually able to eek out a few days in January for these.
- Tall, flat boots. Motorcycle boots are also hot, so I’ve chosen a style that combines the looks.
- Oversized bags - STILL. I happen to love big bags since I can throw all the kid’s stuff in with mine.
- Stilettos! The higher the better and combined with a platform, they’re a sexy replacement for your summer wedges.
- Plaid. I’m not really a huge fan but hey - all things in moderation.
- Lace and it’s EVERYWHERE; dresses, pants, shoes, bags, tights…lace accessories are an easy and inexpensive way to update your look.
- Bow tie blouses, but choose carefully - you want to avoid looking like a librarian.
- Full, calf length skirts can be cozy and chic with some bold tights, not to mention the perfect venue for your new boots!
- Camel, black and berry tones (Especially berry at night - go for bright!)
(Clockwise form top; Chloe ‘Poppy’ Necklace, Burberry ‘Eura’ Metallic Cardigan, Miu Miu Buckle Biker Boots, Bottega Veneta Full Pleated Skirt, Chloe ‘Pearl’ Leather Shoulder Bag, YSL Tribute T-Strap Sandals, Graeme Black Wool Flannel Dress, Temperly London Crochet Detail Blouse) All items are available at net-a-porter.com except sandals which you can find at barneys.com.
High/Low: Ombre Boots for Fall July 14, 2008
As many of you know, I am a huge fan of the classic, side buckle, engineer boot. I own several pairs in different colors and styles, most of which have seen the shoemaker at least once. I came across the Frye version first, and have to say that I think I like them even better than the Prada pair. Good thing, since they’re a quarter of the price! Enough… June 25, 2008
I’ve been on the fence about this one, but given the stifling heat in L.A. of late, I’ve come to a decision; enough with the ’summer’ scarves. I’m all for looking fashionable, but it’s literally been over 100 degrees here - swing a dead cat and you’ll hit some skinny cutie wearing one. (Maybe that’s it; with their lack of body fat they could actually just be trying to stay warm) Not a bad look per se, so if you choose to sweat it out ladies? More power to you!
The Fanny Pack is Back (And it’s PRADA) June 20, 2008

File this amongst the other things that have resurfaced that I’m not clamoring for; I didn’t wear one then, and I won’t be buying in anytime soon. For those of you who missed it (the era or the bag itself) the fanny pack is here again. This season it runs the gamut from Target (they call theirs a ‘Belt Bag’) to a crocodile version seen on the Burberry runway. And hey, Prada? You can call it a ‘Hip Bag’ all you want, but we know what it really is and it’s not so hip…or is it?
Fall 2008 Trends: You Decide June 5, 2008

So I know it feels early to discuss what’s going to be happening in the fall. If you’re like me you JUST bought your swimsuit. I always feel that trends are to be taken with a grain of salt - EVERY year that say that ‘Color is in!’ What does this even mean? That being said, some things are a fortunate carry over of spring and summer trends that you might already have in your closet. (Rosettes, ombre and pictured above from Gucci’s Fall ‘08 Runway, boho chic) Other trends we haven’t seen in a few years or more. (Padded shoulders anyone?) Western was big on the runways for fall, so we can all feel free to break out the dusty cowboy boots from the back of the closet. Also, be on the lookout for amongst others; sleeveless jackets, flapper/deco (especially in jewelery and accessories) rust gowns for evening, deep jewel box tones, minimal dressing and lots of plaid. (Yikes!) Whatever trends you decide to embrace or eschew, remember your failsafe staples; you can always use them as a base with which to add a few trendy pieces you just can’t live without.
